You are bidding on an EXTREMELY RARE and 100% original WW1 US Army Air Service Mark 1A Bomb Sight! This would have been used specifically on the Airco DH-4!The Bomb Sight Mark 1-A was an early United States Army Air Service bombing instrument used during World War I. These manually operated devices were designed to assist bombardiers in calculating release timing based on altitude, speed, and drift, long before the introduction of advanced optical or gyroscopic systems. Manufactured by companies such as Edison Phonograph Works in Orange, New Jersey, these sights represent some of the earliest standardized aerial bombing equipment used by American forces during the war.Made of brass, aluminum, an steel, this item in is SUPERB condition! 98% of the original paint and finish remains, and there is NO damage or corrosion! This is a manually adjusted sight and all original adjustment knobs and components are present. The unit is mechanically functional with all moving parts operating as intended, though some areas are slightly stiff from age and would benefit from light lubrication. Both original spirit levels are intact and functional! There are NO cracks, repairs or replace parts, and appears to be NEW OLD STOCK! The bomb sight itself is stamped:Bomb Sight Mark 1-ALOT NO. 86SERIAL NO. 39,Manufactured by Edison Phonograph Works, Orange, N.J., U.S.A.It comes complete with the original and MATCHING wood transport box, both clearly marked with a matching Serial and Lot Number, indicating that this is the ORIGINAL box to this sight! it is solid with clear original stenciling on the top. Hinges and Latches are intact and functional, with only light age-related wear and minor fragility in areas. The interior remains complete as issued for this type. Also includes the original mounting hardware to bolt this to the side of the aircraft. I have shown how it was mounted on the aircraft in the last images. Overall, this is an EXCELLENT, VERY RARE, and HIGHLY COLLECTIBLE complete matching set, PERFECT for any collection or display!
