American Springfield Trapdoor M1873 bayonet

Original example: Only one available. The Springfield Model 1873 'Trapdoor' was the first standard breech-loading rifle adopted by the U.S. Army. The rifle, in both the long and carbine versions, was widely used in later battles against Native Americans. It was the weapon, in its carbine form, used by the soldiers of the 7th Cavalry Regiment who fell in the Battle of Little Big Horn in 1876.This example is in very good used condition, with a beautiful patina reflecting its age. There is some rust on the sleeve, as is common. The marking 'nj' on the ricasso, which stands for New Jersey,is correct. The locking ring moves smoothly and still has the correct locking screw.The bayonet comes with the original steel scabbard with belt loop. Like the bayonet, the scabbard has a beautiful patina used over the years. Most of the original finish has been preserved.The leather belt loop is in good condition.A very fine American Trapdoor bayonet with original scabbard.
