Description
A hard to find, unworn and truly mint example of the Kriegsmarine U-Boat Front Clasp in bronze (U-Boot Frontspange). This piece is manufactured in Feinzink and retains virtually all of its original bronze finish, which is rarely encountered in such well-preserved condition. The crisp detailing and sharp definition make this an outstanding example of this late-war combat award. The reverse is clearly marked 'Entwurf Peekhaus' and 'Ausf. Schwerin, Berlin 68,' confirming production by the renowned maker Schwerin & Söhne of Berlin. This is the desirable second pattern clasp featuring the fluted pin, with both pin and catch fully functional and untouched. The overall condition is exceptional, with no signs of wear, making it particularly attractive for the advanced collector. The U-Boat Front Clasp was instituted on 15 May 1944 by Großadmiral Karl Dönitz, Commander-in-Chief of the Kriegsmarine. The award was granted based on the recommendation of a U-boat commander and required Dönitz's approval, without strict formal criteria. A silver grade was later introduced on 24 November 1944 to further reward continued merit and acts of bravery. Original examples in this near mint condition are extremely difficult to find, making this a premium and highly collectible piece.
