Description

This exceptional and highly complete WWII German grouping belonged to Obergefreiter Ludwig Bär, who served in Panzerjäger-Abteilung 158, an anti-tank unit of the 58th Infantry Division. The set offers a rare, fully documented insight into a frontline soldier's career, covering his service from the early war period through to 1945, with a well-filled Soldbuch and extensive supporting documentation. The Soldbuch is wartime issued and thoroughly completed, showing continuous service in Panzerjäger units and confirming multiple combat deployments. It records several wounds sustained during frontline service, which directly correspond to the awards present in the group. Additional loose pages and inserts further enhance the research value of this document. The medal group is complete and very attractive, consisting of the Iron Cross 2nd Class, Eastern Front Medal, General Assault Badge, and both the Wound Badge in Black (marked '110') and Silver (marked 'L/18'). The silver wound badge shows a typical field repair with an aluminium pin, reflecting authentic combat use. The progression from black to silver wound badge clearly indicates repeated injuries in action. All original award documents are included, which is increasingly rare to find together. These consist of the EK2 document (1943), Ostmedaille document, General Assault Badge document, and both wound badge award certificates. All documents match the Soldbuch entries, making this a fully coherent and untouched grouping. In addition, the set includes two NSDAP membership books (early and later type), the original NSDAP party badge, and early SA-related paperwork from 1937. Further documents include a congratulatory letter for the Iron Cross, denazification papers from 1947, and a postwar weapons permit from 1952. Altogether, this grouping represents a complete historical record of one individual, spanning pre-war, wartime, and postwar periods, making it a highly desirable and rare collector's set.
