Description
The fitted cased communion set is named to U.S. Army Chaplain Donald W. Zimmerman. The hard case is approximately 13 inches by 17-1/4 inches by 8-1/4 inches deep. The set contains silver communion implements to include an altar cross; two candlesticks, with candles; two glass jars, one of which has a pouting spot for sacramental wine; a round covered box for communion wafers; and a tray with small glasses for serving of the wine. Also with the set is a silver cleaning cloth; a small cross for wear around the neck; a single officer's Chaplain Corps collar insignia; a book of World War II matches; and a prayer card with 'A Soldier's Prayer'. The set is accompanied by an 8 inch by 10 inch copy of a World War II photograph of Chaplain Zimmerman; a copy of his online obituary; and a copy of a photograph of a Chaplain in the field with an open communion set. The silver implements all show a dark and uncleaned patina, and the exterior surfaces of the case exhibit scuffs and wear, but overall the set is in complete and impressive field used condition.
