Description
Nice lightly worn M42 Luftwaffe steel helmet, showing an honest combat-used appearance. The original Luftwaffe flying eagle decal on the side has been period removed, with only faint remnants of the swastika, beak and wings still visible. This was commonly done in accordance with regulations and for camouflage purposes. The helmet shows light wear overall and features a small impact dent on the top, clearly indicating field use. It was sourced in the United States as a veteran bring-back.The exterior retains its original blue Luftwaffe paint, giving the helmet a very attractive look. The shell is marked NS66, indicating production by NS in size 66, with lot number D342 stamped in the rear. Above this marking, the name 'Paula' is lightly written in pencil, most likely by the original wearer. In the crown, the original acceptance (dome) stamp is still visible, a nice feature appreciated by collectors. The helmet is complete with its original liner, which is a beautiful calfskin example in very good condition, size marked 59. The leather remains supple and retains its original drawstring. The split pins are straight and untouched, confirming the liner has never been removed. A large sized, honest and untouched Luftwaffe helmet with great character and strong display appeal.
