Description
A very nice late war German Wehrmacht canteen, a typical reissued example as commonly seen due to the German practice of reusing equipment. The flask itself is marked SMM41, indicating production in 1941, but this set was clearly reissued and reassembled later in the war, most likely around 1943. This makes it a great representation of wartime resourcefulness and reuse. The highlight of this set is without doubt the rare canteen cup, marked AEMA43. It features the desirable blue enamel interior combined with a green painted exterior, a combination that is highly sought after by collectors. These cups are not commonly encountered and significantly enhance the appeal of the set.The canteen is fitted with a late war cover featuring PRYM marked press studs and a typical late war strap made from ersatz/pigskin leather. A nice detail is the brown leather reinforcement tab on the cover where the black strap passes through, showing the typical material and color variations seen in late war production. A very attractive and well-matched set in excellent condition with a rare cup as its centerpiece.
