Description
A very attractive and original Cholm Shield in steel construction, featuring soldered-on prongs. This example comes complete with its original matching field-grey cloth backing and paper reverse, all nicely preserved. The shield is unmarked, corresponding to the desirable so-called 'long M' variant, and retains a strong, untouched appearance throughout. The finish remains well intact with a pleasing patina and only minor signs of age and wear. There are no repairs, no damage, and the prongs remain in excellent condition. The overall presentation is clean and honest, making it a very display-worthy example of this rare combat award. The Cholm Shield was awarded to personnel who served in the Cholm Pocket between January and May 1942 and is considered the rarest of the German campaign shields, with only around 5,500 recipients. Complete and original examples like this are becoming increasingly difficult to find — a superb piece for any advanced collection.
