WW1 Pair with M.I.D Oakleaves GVR 1st type army LS&GCTo- 4849.WO.CL.2.D.FERRIS.R.IR.RIF (Pair)& 4849.C.S.MJR.D.FERRIS.R.IR.RIF (LS&GC)David Ferris was a long serving Irish Rifles Warrant officer & was awarded his LS&GC in 1915. He was taken prisoner of war at St Quention on the 20th of March 1918 & was mortally wounded in an attempt to stop an enemy machine gun & save the life of his officer. He never regained consciousness & sadly died 26-3-1918. He later went on to be awarded a posthumous M.I.D in the London gazette 24-5-1918 & having no known grave he is commemorated on the Thiepval memorial. He was 39 years of age at the time of his death & is recorded by the CWGC as the late son of William Ferris & the Late husband of Elizabeth Ferris of 86 Church street, Newtonards, County Down.GVF or better & complete with extensive research details. This is his full & complete medal entitlement
