Description
Very interesting Wehrpass (Zweitschrift) belonging to Unteroffizier Willy Schrüber, born in 1914. As indicated on the cover, this is a replacement Wehrpass, meaning his original was likely lost during the war and officially reissued. Schrüber entered service on 15 October 1936 in an artillery regiment, later transferred to Aufklärungs-Abteilung 5 and eventually serving with Heeres-Flak-Abteilung 278 (mot.) within the 23. Panzer-Division.His unit saw extensive combat on the Eastern Front, starting with Operation Barbarossa in 1941, including breakthrough battles at the Stalin Line, the advance toward Kiev, and heavy fighting along the Dnjepr. In the following years, he participated in intense defensive operations across southern Russia and Ukraine, including the Mius front, Donets basin, and the retreat battles around Kriwoi Rog, Nikopol, and the Dnjepr line. The Wehrpass continues into 1944–1945, documenting desperate defensive actions in Hungary and along the Austrian border during the final phase of the war.Schrüber was promoted to Unteroffizier on 1 May 1945 and was wounded on 22 March 1944 on the Eastern Front, though not severely. He received several awards, including the Ostmedaille, Kriegsverdienstkreuz 2. Klasse, Kraftfahrabzeichen in bronze and silver, and a Heeres-Flak badge, indicating a role as a driver within a motorized flak unit. The Wehrpass is well-filled, complete with both the original portrait and an additional photograph, making it a historically rich and desirable example.
