Description

WWII German Model 1940 DAK Tropical Helmet-This one has a few stories to tell. The finish is a tropical tan with a rough texture. It remains partially intact. There were decals on it at some point, both an army decal and a tri color shield. We have to assume that the tri color shield was added post war but perhaps the army decal was original. Regardless, both have been removed from the helmet and the spots where they resided are also missing the tan finish. Inside is a size 57 brown leather liner that remains in good condition. There is a reinforced aluminum liner band that has a few small bends in it. It is maker marked, dated 1940 and size stamped 66/57. Yes, this is what it says which is also odd but it is clearly stamped onto the band. The side of the interior is stamped NS 66 indicating production by Nickelwerke of Schwerte in the size of 66. The rear skirt lot number is obscured by the reissue paint. There are two names on the rear skirt. The one that is very legible is Obwm. Brügmann. This is a police rank so it adds to the intrigue even more. It is a good looking piece despite the oddities.
