Description

Original WWII British Body Armour (MRC). The Body armor is well known for its use by airborne forces, but it was also used by regular infantry regiments. It was designed by the Medical Research Council (MRC). The armour was made of three 1mm thick manganese steel plates for the chest, lower belly (also known as the 'goolie' plate) and a rear plate partially covering the lower back and kidneys in an inverted 'T' design. These plates were placed in canvas covers with felt padding, held in place by straps, and usually worn under the smock or battle dress jacket (which we can not see on war period photos). Total weight was just over 1 Kg.There is substantial evidence of body armors being used by Canadian infantry regiments. This body armor is clearly maker-marked by G&S Ltd and dated 1944. There is a name written on the body armour. It is in used condition, with the lower plate missingβ€”often removed by vehicle drivers or glider pilots. The armor also shows bullet holes.A very rare piece of British equipment!
