Original WWII Clandestine Radio Receiver – Type 31/1 'Sweetheart'. A rare and historically important covert radio receiver used by European resistance forces during World War II. Designed in 1943 for the British Special Operations Executive (SOE), the Sweetheart was a compact, low-power receiver capable of operating for hundreds of hours on standard batteries. Approximately 50,000 units were manufactured and airdropped into occupied Europe, where they were used to receive coded BBC broadcasts from London. This example bears serial number 8098, indicating that approximately 41,902 units were produced after this set. The receiver is largely complete, with the only missing item being the round metal tin for the crystal earphones.
