Description

Original WWII Belgian Volunteer for the Royal Navy Belge. This exceptional grouping belonged to Jean Rahier, a Belgian volunteer who served with the Royal Navy Belge during the Second World War. He received training in the United Kingdom in October 1944 and served as part of a sea mine–clearing team. Very little research has been done on this individual so far, meaning this grouping holds significant potential for further historical research and undoubtedly represents a unique wartime story. The grouping includes his full naval uniform complete with Belgian insignia. His name is written on most of the items, though one piece bears another name, likely an item he acquired or exchanged with another sailor. Also included are his leather boots dated 1944, naval cap, Canadian-made Mk II helmet painted in navy blue adn VMC liner, a rare model navy blue life belt, money belt, shirts, duffle bag, and some original documentation. The items show expected traces of wear consistent with age and service.Groupings from the Belgian section of the Royal Navy are extremely rare to find, especially in such complete and well-preserved condition.
