About the RLB: The Reichsluftschutzbund (RLB), or Reich Air Protection League, was a civil defense group in Nazi Germany. It focused on air raid protection for homes and small businesses. Hermann Göring founded the RLB in 1933 as a voluntary association. The Nazi regime later merged existing air raid groups into the RLB. In 1939, the RLB received legal status as a Körperschaft des öffentlichen Rechts, a semi-public entity. By 1944, it became an affiliate of the Nazi Party (NSDAP). After World War II, the Allied Powers dissolved the RLB. Its successor in West Germany was the Bundesverband für den Selbstschutz, which continued civil defense efforts under democratic rule.
