US Civil War Battlefield Recovered 1855 Rifleman's Buckle & Keepers

Sold
$165.00

Description

Original era manufacture. A complete field recovered example to include the two brass slides which held the knapsack strap hooks in place. Based on and nearly an exact copy of the French system used by their Chasseuers a Pied during the reign of Napoleon III. Our source states that our buckle was recovered in Hanover County Virginia, possibly lost during the Seven Days battles during the Peninsula Campaign of 1862. The buckle is complete but broken on one side of its frame, perhaps causing its loss over 150 years ago. A scarce buckle to find in any condition.
