Description

Item DescriptionOriginal Item: Only One Available. This is an rough but exceptionally rare World War One airship identification poster designed for the British public and printed under the authority of His Majesties Stationary Office. An identical poster can be found in the permanent collection of the Imperial War Museum in London. Overall condition is fair with heavy fold marking and two pieces having torn off from the bottom left corner.Even with both torn pieces lined up there is still a bit missing in that corner, but with professional framing that aligns the pieces rather than reconnecting them, this will make for a phenomenal display. The information is still clear and the color is vibrant. There is additional minor loss in the top left corner with tears and staining along the rest of the poster's edge. The poster measures 19 ½ x 29 ½'. The title and main text are positioned in the upper quarter, in black. The 24 images occupy the lower three- quarters, integrated with further text in red and in black. All set against a white background and held within a black and a red border. image: 24 silhouetted depictions of British and German airships and aircraft. You can tell this is an early war piece due to the earlier aeroplane designs. The text reads:PUBLIC WARNINGThe public are advised to familiarise themselves with the appearance of British and German Airships and Aeroplanes, so that they may notbe alarmed by British aircraft, and may take shelter if Germanaircraft appear. Should hostile aircraft be seen, take shelterimmediately in the nearest available house, preferably in the basement, and remain there until the aircraft have left the vicinity: do not standabout in crowds and do not touch unexploded bombs. In the event of HOSTILE aircraft being seen in country districts, the nearest Naval, Military or Police Authorities should, if possible, be advised immediately by Telephone of the TIME OF APPEARANCE, the DIRECTION OF FLIGHT, and whether the aircraft is an Airship or an Aeroplane.GERMAN AIRSHIPSNote specially the shape of the Airships and the position of the passenger carsZEPPELINSCHUTTE-LANZPARSEVALBRITISH AIRSHIPSH.M.A. ASTRA TORRESH.M.A. BETAH.M.A. ETAH.M.A. PARSEVALNote specially the sloped-back wings of the German AeroplanesAEROPLANESSTAHLTAUBE MONOPLANERUMPLER TAUBE MONOPLANEAVIATIK BIPLANE D.F.W.
