Original U.S. Indian Wars Old West Era Braintanned Buckskin Fringed Leather Jacket - Circa 1880s

Item DescriptionOriginal Item. One-of-a-Kind. This is an outstanding example of an 'Old West' era braintanned buckskin leather jacket with great retained fringe on both sleeves and across the back. The jacket dates to the 1880s, and has some damage and heavy wear from over a century of storage. Please be advised that due to the fragility of this material, it should NOT be stored on a hanger, and if displaying on a mannequin, take extra care to ensure the mannequin is a small enough size as to not further damage the material.There is some heavy wear and a tear in the left shoulder close to the collar. The collar is patterned as shown, and the front closure and bottom edge of the jacket have a zig-zag pattern. There is another small hole in the back of the jacket near the bottom edge. Both cuffs have sewn-over zig-zag patterned edges.The front of the jacket has a five-button closure, the buttons being rolled up pieces of leather. The 1st, 2nd, and 4th buttons are still in the rolled-up position,There is a small patch pocket on the right breast, which does not have a flap and was not designed with one. There are two waist pockets which do have flaps. All three pockets have the same zig-zag pattern along the sewn edges, though the points are now heavily worn down.The leather is now heavily worn across the jacket as can be expected. The fringe on the sleeves and along the back of the jacket is in great shape without any serious loss.
