Item DescriptionOriginal Item: Only One Available. ThePanzerfaust 60 gross('large') orFaustpatrone(Translated literally to mean: Tank Fist Large) was the third version of the Panzerfaust. This was the most common version, with production starting in September 1944. It had a much more practical range of 60 m (66 yd), although with a muzzle velocity of only 45 m (148 ft) per second it would take 1.3 seconds for the warhead to reach a tank at that range. To achieve the higher velocity, the tube diameter was increased to 5 cm (2.0 in) and 134 g (4.7 oz) of propellant used. It also had an improved flip-up rear sight and trigger mechanism. The weapon now weighed 6.1 kg (13 lb). It could defeat 200 mm (7.9 in) of armor.Used launchers such as this are 'expended ordnance' which 'are not classified as a 'firearm' or 'destructive device'' by the BATF once used, and 'therefore, they are not subject to GCA or NFA provisions.' This example is in total compliance and is NOT AVAILABLE FOR EXPORT. NOT AVAILABLE TO CALIFORNIA RESIDENTS.This ingenious throw away Rocket and Launcher was one of AH's last ditch weapons adopted by the NSDAPs to try and repel the invading Allies on both the Eastern and Western fronts. This is a great example of a 60 Meter Panzerfaust tube, which still retains the original pop up sight and rear trigger, as well as the rocket 'tail' portion. When transported, the warhead was not armed, and needed to be removed from the tail to inert the detonator. When this example was found, most likely the explosive head was removed and disposed of. The tail itself contains no explosives whatsoever, so it was retained, while the launch tube was relatively easily deactivated by removing the propellant charge. Unfortunately there is no way to know whether this is the original tail that came with this tube, or whether it was swapped later. Both components show a good amount of wear and weathering, so we assume they were picked up off the battle field by a USGI and brought home. It still retains some of the originaldunkelgelb(dark yellow) tan paint, and there is some of the marking labels present, particularly on the left side, while the right side markings are almost completely gone. The rocket tail shows a good amount of oxidation, and all of the fins are broken off, with two still having remnants attached to the wooden tail.We are able to identify this example as a Panzerfaust 60 due to the location of the 'charge retention screw' at the center of the launcher, which is opposite the trigger. If this was a Panzerfaust 100 m, the charge retention screw would be roughly 7 inches below the trigger. Only with the 60 m with the smaller charge was this screw at the same level as the trigger. This is a rare chance to find a Panzerfaust tube that was in the field, complete with a rocket tail.
