Description

Original era manufacture. This wonderful set was recently purchased from the daughter of her Scottish born father, who emigrated to the USA prior to WWII. He crossed the Canadian border after the declaration of war and enlisted in the RCAF becoming a C-47 (Dakota) pilot serving with the RCAF 436 Squadron in the CBI. The grouping consists of his tunic with matching trousers, overseas hat, leather flying helmet, goggles (no headband), extra wings, his logbook (several entries relate delivering supplies to an airfield under enemy fire), his unit history Canucks -Unlimted, numerous pieces of official and semi official paperwork, a small snapshot album, graduation photograph, silk escape map of Burma and more. The uniform is sound but does show some minor fraying here and there from wear. all original sewn and applied insignia, with the Canada-USA arcs on each shoulder. The helmet and goggles show considerable use as they are the exact set he wore while piloting his Dakota in the humid skies of Burma. Nothing has been added to, or taken away from this group, with several of the pieces being named to him. Excellent research potential for a pilot who served with the 436 squadron who supplied support for the 33rd Corps of the Allied 14th Army in Burma. Right out of the woods as they say...
