US Indian Wars Pattern Infantry Canteen, 1916 Dated Cover

Original era manufacture. US M1878 Canteen with a light green canvas cover with a US stencil on front and 1916 date at bottom. The canteen is complete with an original cork stopper which is secured to one of the triangular suspension loops by a brass linked chain, one link is damaged. It also has a proper narrow pattern black leather shoulder strap with brass fittings. The brass strap attaching hooks are riveted in place rather than sewn, so may be an old replacement. Scattered areas of rust staining to the body but overall the canteen is quite sound. Unusual to find such a late dated canteen.
