French 1882 Pattern Officers Sword, 1845 Dated Blade

Description

Original era manufacture. This is quite an interesting sword, one frankly I have not been able to properly identify. The three branch brass guard is similar to the 1882 pattern sword but brass instead of silver. Fishskin wrapped grip with triple wire binding. 33 inch straight blade with double fullers on each side. Nickle or chrome finished scabbard with a single carrying ring. The blade displays some interesting markings, on the obverse a Chatellerault marking with a date of 1836 is engraved in the upper fuller and a modification date of 1845 in the lower fuller. On the reverse of the blade is the name MARIA flanked by floral scrolls in the upper fuller and below the acid etched address RUE DU 4 SEPTEMBRE 14 PARIS. My guess is that this is a reissue of a traditional blade so as to give the new owner a link with the past. Neat sword showing normal light age and wear.
