Japanese WWII Imperial Navy Senior Officers Flag

Original era manufacture. Multi-piece construction wool bunting pennant. Halyard loops on two sides of the hoist. Very minor moth damage.Perhaps the most interesting aspect of this flag is that it was a wartime souvenir of Admiral (then Captain) Roy A Gano USN who commanded the USS Dyson DD572 during the battles off Bougainville during WWII. On the night of November 24-25 1943 The Dyson formed part of DESRON 23 and with them engaged 6 Japanese Destroyers, sinking four and damaging the remaining two without loss to the US ships. For this action Captain Gano received the Navy Cross.
