French Second Empire Infantry Officers Buckle

Original era manufacture. Elegant 19th century mercury gilded buckle of four piece construction. Slightly curved rectangular buckle with clipped corners. The reverse shows a makers mark on the attaching hook and prongs holding the front design in place. Worn during the reign of Napoleon III into the early part of the 20th century.
