Description

Original era manufacture. White doeskin wool body with light blue piping and cap band. Pale tan morrocan leather sweatband with a white silk lining. Securely sewn visor, with a white underside, the sweatband is also securely sewn with no breaks in the stitching. On the front of the cap an officer's quality national cockade is at top, and below an enlisted cockade in the colors of the Kingdom of Saxony, green and white. There is considerable mothing to the piping around the top of the cap as shown, with a few scattered holes in the top and cap band. The top has been pushed down during improper storage, and the support brace has torn away, this can be repaired. Overall the cap still displays well, and represents a type of headgear worn by an officer of one of the elite regiments of the old Imperial Army. ''It has been brought to our attention by another long-time collector, that in it's present configuration, the hat would be regulation for a man serving in Ulan Regiment 21, which would have had a Saxon green/white cockade. What made me go with the Kurrasier regiment 3 designation, is the obvious evidence of replacement of the lower cockade at some point in the past. The securing hole for the mounting pins is considerably larger than needed, and other wise showing obvious signs of tampering. In the end, if you need an Ulan hat for your collection, you're set, if a Kurrasier is on your list, just replace the lower cockade with a Prussian one. Good Collecting!
