French Mle1822 Cavalry Enlisted Sword, Chatellerault 1878

Original era manufacture. Clean polished steel blade measuring 36 inches in length, running straight and true with no issues.  Clear markings on the spine with an 1878 date. The blade is bright, no corrosion pitting, with some scattered clouding and light staining to the surface.  Mellow brass patina finish to the guard, leather covered grip with single strand twisted brass wire binding, only portions of which remain up by the pommel cap. The guard and blade are tight. Dark steel patina finish on the dent-free scabbard with a single suspension ring, serial number 672 on the suspension band. The scabbard fits the blade properly but is a little tight about the last 4 inches or so, but closes up properly to the base of the guard.
