The poster is in used condition and was used to recruit Walloon volunteers for the Walloon Waffen-SS volunteer legion.Printer: O.Platteau & Co. in Antwerp (Belgium)Dimensions: 80 x 59 cm.On July 6, 1941, Leon Degrelle announced the creation of the 'Légion Wallonie.Immediately Degrelle began a tour of Wallonia to recruit volunteers. In his speeches, he called for participation in 'a crusade against godless Bolshevism,' and he spread the rumor that he had the tacit support of King Leopold III of Belgium.At the first rallies, only 850 volunteers reported for the legion.During the fighting in the winter of 1941, the ranks of the legion were greatly depleted.The German army leadership considered disbanding the unit.Leon Degrelle was determined to prevent this, as it would lower his prestige.In February 1942, he sent a legionnaire to Rex's leadership with the task of recruiting a new batch of volunteers.Reports of hardships on the Eastern Front deterred many volunteers and few new recruits showed up.The Walloon Legion fought against partisans in Ukraine, Cherkassy and the Battle of Tannenberg, among others.An interesting Walloon Waffen-SS poster for the collaboration or poster collection!Article number: 9907
