Original WWII South African fascists organization 'Ossewabrandwag' grouping J.D. Klerk

The grouping is in good condition and belonged to the South African J.D. Klerk who was an officer in the 'Ossewabrandwag' fascist movement in 1940.It contains his membership document, membership pin 1st pattern, membership badge 2nd pattern, silver tie stickpin, handkerchief, slate desk set, pin of the leader Rensburg and a miniature national flag.The Ossewabrandwag was of a fascist and extreme nationalist organization of Afrikaners who oppose British imperialism and it was founded in 1939.Initially, the Ossewabrandwag was a cultural organization, but it gradually became more militant and paramilitary.The Gryshemd division was held responsible for goons and acts of sabotage.The Ossewa brandwag was in the hands of 'commander-general' J.H.J. van Rensburg, who was pro-National Socialist.Johannes van Rensburg became Secretary of Justice (under Smuts as Minister) in 1933.As Secretary, he traveled overseas to Germany where he met Adolf Hitler, Hermann Goring, and other top Nazi officials.He was greatly impressed with Hitler's leadership and the discipline he observed in Germany.Many of the Ossewabrandwag members were imprisoned by the British during World War II.Many members committed sabotage, they dynamited electrical power lines and railroads and cut telegraph and telephone lines.These types of acts were going too far for most Afrikaners, and Malan ordered the National Party to break with the OB in 1942.In September 1942 the Ossewabrandwag was banned by Prime Minister Jan Christian Smuts.Some of its leaders, including B.J. Vorster – who would later become state president – was imprisoned.The movement remained active underground for several years, but disappeared in the course of the 1950s.A very rare grouping for the collaboration or World War II collection!Article number: 7782
